Forty years in Bentonite

June 2017

This year, 2017, marks the 40th anniversary of Rawell. Formed in 1977 by current Chairman, Bryan Flynn, Rawell began life as a Civil Engineering Contractor. Among its early clients Rawell began by building offices, storage sheds and manufacturing plant for a Bentonite processing company in Seacombe on the Wirral. This led us to introducing bentonite membranes to the civil engineering industry in the UK during the 1980s. At that time Bryan could not have foreseen that 40 years later his company would have gone full circle and were themselves manufacturers of Bentonite waterproofing membranes supplying products all over the world and supplying some of the largest construction projects seen across the world. These projects include The Channel Tunnel project in Folkestone, Chek Lap Kok Airport in Hong Kong and the MTRC Rail Link also in Hong Kong linking the Airport to the bustling Hong Kong Island. Further afield major projects like the East Link Tunnels, Melbourne Australia, Britomart in New Zealand, Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia, the Central Park canal system built entirely on reclaimed land in Incheon Bay in South Korea and a number of very large Farming Ponds across Japan for the Agriculture industry.

Rawell are proud to have been producing its prehydrated Rawmat® HDB membrane at our site in Hoylake since 1992, from here we have supplied projects in over 35 countries across the world and we look forward to continuing to supply projects both at home and abroad for the next 40 years!
